I believe
- All human beings, regardless of race, color, creed, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation, deserve the same rights.
- Billionaires shouldn't exist.
- Climate change is real.
- Healthcare should never be for profit.
- A child's life matters more than your right to own a gun.
- Anyone working 40 hours a week should be able to afford a home, healthy food, healthcare and transportation.
- Every child deserves the same quality of education.
- Money doesn't belong in politics.
Rights and equality
- Equal rights: All human beings, regardless of race, color, creed, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation, deserve the same rights and the same respect and dignity. That includes bodily autonomy and the right to love and marry whomever they choose, as long as that person is not a child.
- Women's rights: Women deserve equal pay for equal work and full control over their own bodies. I support DEI programs, because everyone should have the same opportunities.
- DEI Means making sure people of every background get a fair chance to be hired, paid fairly and treated with respect. It does not give anyone an advantage, and it takes nothing away from white men.
Billionaires
- Billionaires: Billionaires shouldn't exist. I will close the loopholes and tax 95% of any wealth over $1 billion every year, including unrealized gains, so borrowing against assets no longer avoids the tax. I will work with other nations to pass similar laws so the ultra wealthy can't avoid paying their share by moving to another country.
- Maximum wage: No one can earn more than 100 times what the lowest-paid worker at their company earns. If a CEO or owner wants to make more money, they must increase the pay of everyone below them.
Climate and technology
- Climate: I will not raise taxes on individuals to pay for climate solutions. The cost falls on the corporations that caused the problem.
- Production rules: Companies will no longer be allowed to produce harmful emissions or products. Alternatives already exist for most of the products that are killing our planet, and they only need to be scaled.
- Prices: A company cannot raise prices to cover the cost of these changes unless it proves the changes would make it unprofitable. The test counts its share price and everything it pays to shareholders and executives as money it could have used to absorb the cost. There will be no loopholes. The one exception is meat, because the rules on free range limit how much can be produced.
- Fossil fuels: New drilling and new leases stop immediately, and each year's allowed production drops until it reaches zero. All subsidies and tax breaks for fossil fuel companies end. The companies pay to clean up the damage they caused, and they pay for the clean energy that replaces them. Workers in the industry keep their pay and get retraining and new jobs. Individuals will not pay more taxes for any of it.
- Big ag: Every operation has to meet a pollution standard covering manure, runoff and emissions, and any operation that can't meet it closes. All animals must be free range, and the number of animals allowed is limited by how much land a farm has. Land that no longer supports animals is converted to growing plant-based food or restored to forest, wetland and healthy soil. Subsidies for industrial animal farming end. The corporations pay for the changeover, including paying farmers and workers while they switch, and individuals pay no new taxes. I understand that meat will cost far more under these rules. That is part of the push toward more plant-based eating.
- Big ag water: Farming is one of the largest users of fresh water in the country, and big ag has to cut its water use as part of meeting the pollution standard.
- AI: There will be a moratorium on all new data centers until they can run on 100% sustainable power without harming the environment or the communities around them. Every existing data center has four years to reach 100% sustainable power. Any that miss the deadline will pay a rising tax on every unit of non-sustainable power they use, and any still out of compliance one year later will be shut down. I know something has to be done about the safety of AI, but I don't know enough about it yet to have a clear policy. I will listen to the experts who aren't paid by the companies that build it.
Healthcare
- Healthcare: Healthcare should never be for profit, period. The entire system will be overhauled, with no insurance companies and no middle man. Single payer will cover everyone, including vision and dental. Your ability to get care will never depend on who you work for, and rich and poor will receive the same level of care.
Guns
- Guns: I think the right to bear arms is outdated and dangerous. The right of children to survive going to school far outweighs anyone's right to own a gun. Yes, I am coming for your guns, and the government will buy back every one at a fair price.
- Amendments: An amendment is a change to the Constitution. The Second Amendment was an amendment to begin with, so it can be amended again, and it will be.
Living wage
- Living wage: The minimum wage will be set for each area so that a person working 40 hours a week can afford a home, healthy food, healthcare and transportation where they live.
Education
- Education: Every child deserves the same quality of education, no matter which ZIP code they live in.
- College costs: College should be affordable for everyone who qualifies. Harvard has a $68 billion endowment, and most people can't afford to attend.
- Endowment-funded college: Colleges with large endowments will use that money to cover full tuition for every qualified student who can't afford it. Those that don't will pay a much higher tax on their endowment.
- Scholarships: Scholarships should always go to students who need the money, not to families who can already pay.
- Admissions: Every student is admitted on qualifications alone, and legacy admissions end entirely. Students who work to pay their way have had less time to contribute to their communities, so their qualifications are judged with that in mind.
Elections and money in politics
- Money in politics: I will end super PACs. Only individuals can donate to candidates, and there will be a limit on what each person can give. Corporations and businesses cannot donate to or endorse candidates.
- Required voting: Voting is required for every citizen, as it is in Australia.
- Election Day: Election Day will be a national holiday, and every citizen will be registered to vote automatically.
- Primaries: I will get rid of primary elections. The parties should choose their own leaders without using taxpayer money.
- Fewer elections: Too much money and time goes into elections in the United States, and I think Americans are tired of constant campaigns. Elections will be consolidated so there are far fewer of them.
- Campaign season: Campaign signs and ads will be allowed only in the three months before an election.
- Term and age limits: The president can serve 8 years total. Members of the House and Senate can serve 12 years, and Supreme Court justices can serve 15 years. No one can be older than 70 when they leave any of these offices, so a person cannot run if they would be over 70 when their term ends.
